Reconstruction of the Oldest First Primary School King Petar II Starts
Užice, November 04, 2015 – The oldest school in the County of Užice, which also has the highest number of pupils, the First Primary School King Petar II, is to undergo a massive reconstruction. Owing to the “Big Heart” project of Eurobank and the “Ana and Vlade Divac“ Foundation and with support of the local self-government, more than 1,000 pupils will have better conditions for attending the school as of next semester. The massive reconstruction, which will include the reconstruction of old and neglected toilets, classrooms, which will receive new equipment, and part of the schoolyard, is worth more than RSD7mn, including RSD1,200,000 provided by the local self-government.
Cooperation between the City, Foundation and Eurobank on the reconstruction of this school, with more than a 130-year old tradition of upbringing and education, has been announced at a press conference in the City Hall of Užice, when the Memo of Understanding and Cooperation has been signed as well.
“I would like to thank the “Ana and Vlade Divac“ Foundation for recognising the need to execute priority works on reconstructing the First Primary School King Petar II in Užice, and to Eurobank in Serbia, which provides funds for this purpose. This is another confirmation that, when there is a good will to help, if forces are joined, then there is a way. Owing to this donation, pupils of the oldest primary school in Užice will soon have much better conditions for studying and attending the school, which they certainly deserve and which, I believe, they will appreciate,” said Mayor Tihomir Petković.
Owing to more than 22 thousand users of the unique “Big Heart” MasterCard card, the project of the same name has been “living” for the fifth consecutive year.
“It is no coincidence that the anniversary 30th facility within the “Big Heart” project is the First Primary School King Petar II. We are privileged to be in a position to help the reconstruction of the school, which has been educating young generations for more than 130 years and which has been attended by some of the most prominent individuals. I hope that in the future this school will educate generations of academics, successors of former pupils such as Ljubomir Simović or Milutin Uskoković, and that in the schoolyard we will have successors of our top athletes, such as Olivera Jevtić or Vesna Čitaković,“ underlined Dušan Mihailović, a member of the Executive Board of Eurobank.
From the start, Eurobank’s partner in the “Big Heart” project has been the “Ana and Vlade Divac” Foundation. “Children’s success is the only valuable parameter of our efforts.
So far we have made happy nearly 10 thousand children in kindergartens and schools across Serbia. I am certain that better conditions in the school after the reconstruction will additionally motivate both the teachers and pupils to unite in their objective – creating high-quality young generations, said Ana Koeshall, Director of the “Ana and Vlade Divac” Foundation.
The reconstruction of toilets for pupils in the “First Primary School King Petar II”, attended by 1200 pupils, and positioning of their entrances from the schoolyard direction within the school building is one of the priority infrastructure needs of our school. On behalf of the pupils, their parents and employees of the school, I would like to express deep gratitude to the Divac Foundation, our City and Eurobank for acknowledging this problem and for their willingness to help us,” said the School Principal, Nikola Bacetić.
