Better conditions for nearly 1200 pupils

12 April 2016.

COMPREHENSIVE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE OLDEST SCHOOL IN UŽICE,”KRALJ PETAR II” PRIMARY SCHOOL, COMPLETED

The second term for nearly 1200 pupils of “Kralj Petar II“ Primary School has started in the reconstructed school building. Toilets have been renovated, some classrooms additionally equipped, a new fence deployed and part of the schoolyard refurbished. This is a result of the “Big Heart” project, executed in the past several months by Eurobank and the “Ana and Vlade Divac“ Foundation, with support of the local self-government. The overall value of the investment is nearly RSD6mn, including RSD1,200,000 provided by the local self-government.
“In cooperation with the Divac Foundation, we have executed several important projects at the territory of Užice. One of them is the reconstruction of toilets, fence, hot water pipeline between the school and the toilets and equipment for three classrooms in “Kralj Petar II” Primary School. We are glad that the Foundation, together with Eurobank, has recognised us as a partner and enabled better and more humane conditions for education and growing up with its donation. Commitment and responsibility marking numerous projects focused primarily on those from the most vulnerable social groups and those in need should serve as an example for others to do good, as it is the best part of all of us,” said Mayor Tihomir Petković.
Owing to more than 22 thousand “Big Heart” MasterCard card users, the project under the same name is celebrating its sixth anniversary this year. From the beginning, the project has brought happiness to 33 kindergartens and primary schools across Serbia.
“When we announced the reconstruction of the school building in November, the main idea was to provide children with better conditions for education. Now, when I look at the results, I see that this is not only a big incentive for all hard-working pupils, but also a privilege for us, as we have had an opportunity to pay back to this institution with high historical value and more than 130 years-long tradition,” noted Slavica Pavlović, Deputy President of ExBo.
At the school opening ceremony, the pupils have been addressed by Ana Divac, the founder and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, Eurobank’s partner on the project.
““Big Heart” is an excellent example of how foundations and companies can change the society for the better through successful cooperation, changing the conditions for better-quality growing up and education of our youngest first. I am glad to see so many smiling and talented children at one place and I wish you all the success in further education,” said Ana Divac upon the occasion.
