Upon the Agreement, more than EUR60,000 will be invested via the “Big Heart” project in the total reconstruction of the only kindergarten in the town, including all the required construction works and the procurement of furniture and related equipment. The reconstruction will be completed in the summer months, and more than 550 youngest residents of Ub are expected to return to their day nursery as early as in September.

Upon signing the Agreement, Minister of Sport and Youth in the Government of the Republic of Serbia Vanja Udovičić has invited all individuals and companies to continue supporting the revitalisation of the inundated areas. “A serious task of reconstructing everything that has been devastated in the May floods is ahead of us. I appeal to all not to forget now, when the worst is over, about our fellow-citizens who were deprived of the basic living conditions and who still need help. I would particularly like to thank Eurobank and the “Ana and Vlade Divac” Foundation for the efforts invested in reconstructing this kindergarten. Unfortunately, the choice was not difficult, as the flood completely ruined it. Children must not suffer and the task of the state is to protect the youngest. Care is expressed through action rather than words, and families with children have to be a priority in the reconstruction,“ said Minister Udovičić.

President of the Municipality of Ub Darko Glišić has reiterated that the municipality suffered exceptionally huge damage in the May floods, adding that it is ranked among the five most affected municipalities in Serbia in regard to the flood consequences. Around 6000 were evacuated, and more than 1500 facilities and more than 1000 hectares of the most fertile land along the Tamnava river were flooded. The direct and indirect damage ranges between EUR2.2bn and EUR2.5bn. Among facilities of public interest, total damage has been registered at the building of the Pre-School Institution “Ub“ in Ub. Mr Glišić has particularly thanked Eurobank and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, as it is one of few pre-school facilities in Serbia that has recorded an increase in the number of attending children for two consecutive years, adding that it is the most important success and wealth: “I am more than grateful to Eurobank and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, as they have recognised how to best help residents of the municipality of Ub. With the joint reconstruction of the pre-school institution, we will provide all pre-school children with even better quality conditions, as children are truly our biggest treasure. This is the right manner of creating a safe future for Ub and an outstanding example of successful cooperation on improving the standard of living of the youngest residents of Ub.”

Representatives of Eurobank and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation that have jointly been implementing the Big Heart project have pointed out the importance of improving conditions for growing up of the youngest in the areas that are most affected by the floods. “Always striving to help in resolving the most urgent issues encountered by the society, Eurobank reacted as a good corporate citizen during the floods and promptly donated around RSD3.5mn in money and goods, while our employees collected more than 5 tons of items for the flood victims.

However, all segments of the society have to continue providing support, and I am particularly glad that we are in a position to help the youngest residents of Ub return to their day nursery soon,” said Nikolaos Koulompouros, Head of Household Lending in Eurobank.

„Children are most important and establishing conditions for their care-free growing up is a task of all of us, particularly in situations such as this,” pointed out our renowned basketball player Vlade Divac. The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation will continue working on providing better conditions in kindergartens and schools in Serbia with its partners in the upcoming period as well.

In four years of the Big Heart project, Eurobank and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation have reconstructed 21 kindergartens across Serbia. So far, the Big Heart has brought joy to more than 8,000 children, owing to nearly 22,000 Eurobank clients who use the “Big Heart” MasterCard affinity card.
